Yesterday was soooo productive! Making up, I guess, for the days when I didn't even go downstairs much less do any sewing. First finish is this "infinity scarf" that I've been knitting for myself. It's made of a thick and thin yarn called Bamboo Bloom Handpaints that you can see at this website, but I I picked it up at Darn Knit Anyway in Stillwater, MN. It's a combination of rayon made from bamboo, wool and acrylic and it's one of the softest yarns I've ever felt. I also made one for Lily out of a lavender and pink colorway and I hear from her mother that she loves it and wears it often. I like mine made out of these bright colors and think it will look very nice with a navy, forest, or claret shirt for fall and other colors for the rest of the winter. There's also enough purple in it that I think it will do very well with my purple and white winter jacket.
Second finish is this wall hanging I made to put in an empty spot in the downstairs kitchenette. Excuse the dark photo--it's stormy and rainy here and even though I took these photos in the sun porch, they're still a bit dark. I have to run to the hardware store today to get a dowel for it and then Don will hang it and we'll call it good.
I especially like this wall hanging since I made it out of a collection of 2.5" squares that were given (not gifted!) to me awhile ago, and found the rest of the fabrics in my stash, as well as leftover pieces of batting. Free is the best price to pay for something, right?
This is a closeup of the quilting that shows up very well on the back side, not so much on the front. And below is the entire back of the piece.
The other thing I worked on yesterday was this 10" x 30" wall hanging. It's called "Gourdy's Gang" and it's by Threads that Bind. It's made up in felted wool and I have enough of the black wool to use as the foundation but not enough for the appliques. I have woven fabrics in orange and the other colors so I'm going to applique the fabric gourds onto the wool background. I'll add batting and a backing, quilt it up and hang it at my front door for part of the Autumn decoration.
Yesterday, I traced all the shapes on fusible--using my new light box!--and am ready to begin construction today.
